Current tourist entry requirements

Maldives Visa & Entry Requirements

Tourist visa clearance is considered on arrival after the entry requirements are checked. Carry the right documents and use only the official, free IMUGA portal.

The current rule

Tourist visa pre-approval is not required. A tourist visa is considered on arrival after the traveller meets the entry requirements and an immigration officer determines admissibility.

Documents required at the border

Carry an MRZ passport valid for at least 1 month from entry, a complete itinerary with confirmed return or onward tickets, prepaid accommodation at a registered facility, and evidence of sufficient funds for the stay. Extended passport validity is not accepted. You must also meet the entry rules for your onward destination.

Submit the free IMUGA declaration

Complete the Traveller Declaration through the official IMUGA portal within 96 hours (4 days) before arrival. Submission is free. Avoid third-party websites that charge for the form, and keep the completed declaration available for arrival.

Children and health documents

Every child or minor needs a separate passport. Carry a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate when it applies to the traveller’s recent itinerary; children under 1 year are exempt from that certificate requirement.

Longer stays and extensions

Do not rely on old fee or duration figures. Maldives Immigration changed the tourist visa extension process in April 2026. Check the current process directly with Immigration and start before the permission shown in your passport expires.

Visa clearance and resort transfers are separate

A late arrival can clear immigration but still miss a daylight-only seaplane. Check the transfer window with the resort before choosing international flights. Speedboat and domestic-flight arrangements depend on the resort and operating conditions.
