DO I NEED A VISA TO ENTER THE MALDIVES?

No, tourists do not require a prior visa as a 30-day free tourist visa is granted upon arrival. You will only require your resort confirmation and your return international flight tickets.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT THE MALDIVES?

The best weather in the Maldives is between January and April, which also means high season. The monsoon runs from May to October, peaking in June. It is worth paying higher prices and sticking to the dry season as there is nothing to do on a rainy day except drink, eat, work out or scuba dive.

HOW DO I GET TO MY RESORT FROM THE AIRPORT?

Once you arrive at Velana International Airport (MLE), you'll take a seaplane or speedboat to your resort. Seaplanes are a highlight for many — the views of the atolls from above are incredible, and it's a uniquely Maldivian experience.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK FOR THE MALDIVES?

Pack light, breathable clothing for the warm weather, as well as swimwear, sunscreen, and a hat. If you're traveling during the wet season, you might also want to bring a light rain jacket. Don't forget your snorkel gear if you have it — while most resorts provide equipment, you might prefer your own.

ARE THERE ANY CULTURAL CONSIDERATIONS I SHOULD BE AWARE OF?

The Maldives is a Muslim country, so alcohol is only served at resorts and not available on local islands. It's also important to dress modestly when visiting local islands, covering your shoulders and knees.

WHAT KIND OF FOOD CAN I EXPECT?

Most resorts offer a variety of international cuisine, with a focus on fresh seafood and tropical fruits. Many also have specialty restaurants, from overwater dining to beachside grills. If you have any dietary restrictions, be sure to let your resort know in advance.

CAN I VISIT MULTIPLE RESORTS IN ONE TRIP?

Yes, it's possible to visit multiple resorts in one trip, especially if you're staying for a week or more. This is called island hopping, and it's a great way to experience different aspects of the Maldives. Contact Fede at Maldives Postcards to arrange this for you.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE AVAILABLE?

Most resorts offer a variety of activities, from snorkeling and diving to spa treatments and excursions. Some also have cultural experiences, like cooking classes or visits to local islands. If you're interested in a specific activity, be sure to check with your resort before booking.

IS THE MALDIVES SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES?

Yes, many resorts in the Maldives are family-friendly, with kids' clubs, family villas, and activities for all ages. Some resorts are adults-only, so be sure to check before booking. Vakkaru Maldives is a fantastic option for families.

A note on accuracy. Travel facts shift — villa counts get added, restaurants reopen under new chefs, transfer schedules change with the seasons.
