The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands
Villa categories—what’s on offer
The resort has 100 villas split into two main families: overwater and beach. All are designed by Kerry Hill Architects, so the lines are clean, the ceilings slope upward, and the pocket doors slide open to blur the line between bedroom and ocean. Each villa has a private infinity pool, a sundeck, and an Aris Meeha butler who learns your coffee order by day two.
- **Lagoon Pool Villa** – Single-story overwater villa with a circular pool facing the lagoon. Capacity: 2 adults. Floor space: 140 sqm indoors, 110 sqm deck.
- **Ocean Pool Villa** – Same footprint as the Lagoon Pool Villa but positioned on the outer edge of the jetty for unobstructed ocean views. Capacity: 2 adults.
- **Beach Pool Villa** – Land-based, set along private coves. Same interior as the overwater villas but with more outdoor space and direct beach access. Capacity: 2 adults.
- **Two-Bedroom Beach Pool Villa** – Two connected Beach Pool Villas with a shared living area, kitchenette, and larger deck. Capacity: 4 adults or 2 adults + 2 children.
- **Private Beach Residence** – Three-bedroom estate with its own beach, lounge, spa room, and private chef. Capacity: 9 adults or 6 adults + 3 children.
Which villa I’d recommend for whom
Honeymooners: Ocean Pool Villa. The jetty is quiet, the sunsets are direct, and the circular pool feels like your own private lagoon. I’d pick villa numbers 220–230 on the sunrise side for extra privacy—no buggies rumble past, and the horizon is yours alone.
Families: Two-Bedroom Beach Pool Villa. The kids get their own room with twin beds and a bathtub; parents keep the master suite. The shared living area is large enough for board games, and the beach is steps away. Ask for a cove-facing villa—fewer footpaths, more shade.
Multi-gen groups: Private Beach Residence. Three bedrooms, a spa room for in-villa treatments, and a private chef who can whip up grandma’s favorite pasta while the kids splash in the estate’s pool. The beach is secluded, and the butler can arrange a sunset lobster dinner right on the sand.
Solo travelers or couples who want to socialize: Beach Pool Villa near the main pool. You’re close to Eau Bar, the tennis court, and the marina shuttle. The villa still feels private, but you can walk to breakfast without breaking a sweat.
Floor-plan highlights
most villas is circular, so the space flows without corners. The bedroom sits at the center, flanked by a sitting area on one side and a deep-soaking tub on the other. Pocket doors slide back to merge the bedroom with the deck and pool. The ensuite bathroom has double vanities, an indoor rain shower, and an outdoor shower tucked behind a wooden screen. Beach villas add an extra outdoor bathtub and more deck space for sun loungers.
Two-Bedroom Beach Pool Villas have a shared living area with a dining table for six, a kitchenette, and a second outdoor shower. The Private Beach Residence expands this into a full kitchen, spa room, and a deck large enough for yoga at sunrise.
Privacy notes
Overwater villas on the sunset side (numbers 100–102) are visible from La Locanda’s dining terrace. If you want zero neighbors, stick to the sunrise side or book a Beach Pool Villa in a cove. The Private Beach Residence is the only villa with a truly private beach—no one walks past, and the staff use a separate path.

Villa selection tips from the ground
If you’re booking an Ocean Pool Villa, avoid numbers 212, 215, and 216—they’re overlooked by the main jetty. For Beach Pool Villas, the coves near the kids’ club are quieter than the main beach. And if you’re traveling with kids, ask for a villa with a sofa bed; the resort can add one to any Beach Pool Villa.
Good for couples to the Ocean Pool Villas on the sunrise side. The light is softer, the crowds are thinner, and the marine life is more active in the mornings. Families do best in the Two-Bedroom Beach Pool Villas near the kids’ club—short walks, shade, and easy access to ice cream.
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives in a nutshell
This is a resort for travelers who want the Maldives without the usual seclusion. The Fari Islands concept means you can pop over to Patina for gelato or Arabesque for Lebanese mezze without feeling like you’ve left your holiday. The villas are modern, the service is polished, and the marina adds a layer of energy that most Maldives resorts lack. If you’re torn between a private-island vibe and a social scene, this is the rare property that delivers both.
How long is the transfer from Velana International Airport?
45 minutes by speedboat or 10 minutes by seaplane (excluding airport wait times).
Do the villas have direct reef access?
The lagoon is sandy; reef snorkeling is by boat. The resort offers daily excursions to nearby reefs.
Is there a kids’ club?
Yes, the Ritz Kids Club is an indoor-outdoor space with playgrounds, napping pods, a children’s pool, and daily activities for ages 4–12.
