Velassaru has ten villa categories, all with Wi-Fi, L’Occitane bath products, and direct lagoon access. The main differences come down to size, privacy, and whether you want a pool.

Dining and drinks

Five restaurants and two bars keep the island’s relaxed vibe humming. Vela is the main breakfast spot, a buffet with ocean views. Teppanyaki serves seared salmon and sushi at sunset. Sand is the beachside grill; Turquoise does Latin American small plates. Etesian is the fine-dining room, while Chill Bar and Fen Bar bookend the day with cocktails and tapas. The Velassaru Indulgence plan lets you eat and drink at all of them without signing a single bill.

Water and wellness

The house reef starts at the beach and drops into a kaleidoscope of hard and soft corals. The resort’s marine biologist leads guided snorkels, Seabob rides, and night snorkels to spot moray eels and sleeping fish. The GLIDE water-sports centre rents kayaks, paddleboards, and jet skis, and the PADI dive centre runs courses from beginner to advanced. Overwater spa pavilions offer massages with lagoon views, and the hydropool is perched on stilts so you can soak while watching the reef fish below.

Special occasions

Velassaru rolls out the white sand for honeymooners and anniversaries. Complimentary extras include a bottle of Taittinger champagne, tapas and sparkling wine at the Chill Bar, an L’Occitane gift pack, and a $25 spa credit. Transfers and timing

The resort is a 25-minute speedboat ride from Male International Airport. I’ll book the transfer for you, and a resort representative will meet you at arrivals with chilled towels and cold drinks. Speedboats run from 06:00 to 22:00; if your flight lands outside those hours, we’ll switch to a private transfer so you’re not waiting.
