But if you’re looking for a resort where the biggest decision of the day is whether to have your massage on the beach or in your villa, this is it.

What I’d actually book

The Castaway, the floating villa. It’s the only one of its kind in the Maldives, and it’s the closest you’ll get to having your own private yacht without the hassle of sailing it. The villa has two stories, a spa treatment room, and a deck that juts out over the water. You can jump straight into the lagoon from your bedroom, and the resort will bring you meals on a private boat. If you’re travelling with kids, the adjoining bedrooms mean everyone gets their own space. The retractable roof is a real difference—lying in bed watching the stars is the kind of experience you’ll remember long after you’ve forgotten what you paid for it. For couples, Fede recommends the overwater villa with the water slide. It’s playful without feeling gimmicky, and the slide is a strong way to cool off after a long lunch.

The honest bit

The dining is excellent, but if you’re someone who likes to try a new restaurant every night, you’ll be eating in your villa a lot.
