Parents can drop kids off for a morning of treasure hunts or pizza-making classes, then head to the spa or the overwater bar without guilt—Camp Safari even serves healthy snacks so no one comes back wired on sugar.

Villas built for families, not just couples

The two-bedroom Beach Pool Villas are the workhorse of the resort. At 160 square metres, they’re large enough for a family of five, with a master bedroom, a second bedroom with twin beds, two bathrooms, and a private pool that’s fenced on three sides for safety. Overwater villas have direct lagoon access via a short ladder, but the resort also offers complimentary life jackets and non-slip mats for families with younger children. most villas comes with a butler who can set up a beach picnic or babysit for an hour while parents sneak off for a sunset cruise.

Dining that keeps everyone happy

Centara runs an all-inclusive plan that covers three meals a day at Azzuri Mare, the main buffet restaurant. The buffet is a lifesaver for families: there’s a kids’ corner with chicken nuggets and pasta, but also Maldivian curries, sushi, and a live grill station where the chef cooks steaks to order. For picky eaters, Reef Restaurant serves à la carte Western and Asian dishes, and the ice-cream parlour is open from 3 pm until midnight—parents tell me it’s the best bribe on the island.

The house reef you can snorkel before breakfast

The lagoon drops off into a coral garden just 20 metres from the beach. Snorkelling trails are marked with buoys, and the resort provides complimentary gear for all ages, including junior-sized masks. The marine biologist leads guided snorkels twice a day, pointing out nudibranchs and teaching kids how to spot turtle nests. For older children, the dive centre offers a PADI Bubblemaker program from age eight.

What I’d actually book

If I were taking my own family, Fede would book the two-bedroom Beach Pool Villa for five nights in October. The villa gives us space to spread out, the private pool means no fighting over sunbeds, and October’s shoulder season brings fewer crowds and lower rates—well suited to families who want to avoid the December rush. I’d add the all-inclusive plan so we don’t have to think about meal budgets, and I’d schedule a private sandbank picnic for the last afternoon so the kids can run wild while we watch the sunset with a glass of wine.

The honest bit

Machachafushi Resort & Spa isn’t trying to be a boutique adults-only retreat. The beach can get busy in peak season, and the entertainment schedule includes pool games and movie nights that lean toward family fun rather than quiet romance. If you’re looking for a resort where children are seen and not heard, this isn’t it. But if you want a place where your kids can build sandcastles with new friends while you relax knowing they’re safe and entertained, it’s exactly right.
