The Ritz-Carlton’s villas are smaller but more contemporary. The overwater villas have glass floors, outdoor bathtubs, and private pools that extend over the lagoon. If you’re traveling with kids, Conrad’s two-bedroom beach villas have separate living areas, while Ritz-Carlton’s two-bedroom overwater villa has a shared living space but a larger deck.

Dining: underwater vs treehouse

Conrad has 12 restaurants and bars, including Ithaa, the underwater restaurant, and THE MURAKA’s private dining room. The resort also offers sandbank picnics and in-villa dining with a private chef. The resort also offers guided snorkeling tours to nearby reefs. The Ritz-Carlton’s house reef is healthy but smaller—it’s best for casual snorkeling from your villa. Both resorts have dive centers, but Conrad’s is more established, with access to South Ari Atoll’s whale shark and manta ray hotspots.

Kids and families

The Ritz-Carlton wins for families. Ritz Kids is a standout—it’s split into age groups (4-6, 7-9, 10-12) and offers activities like snorkeling, cooking classes, and marine biology workshops. The resort also has a kids’ pool and a family-friendly beach. Conrad has a kids’ club, but it’s smaller and less structured. The resort is better suited for families with older children who can appreciate the underwater dining and marine life.

Transfer time and logistics

Conrad is a 30-minute seaplane ride from Malé, while The Ritz-Carlton is 45 minutes. If you’re arriving late or have an early departure, Conrad’s shorter transfer is a plus. Both resorts have private lounges at the airport, but Conrad’s is more established—you’re more likely to find a quiet corner to relax. The Ritz-Carlton’s lounge is shared with Patina Maldives and The St. Regis Maldives, so it can feel crowded.

What I’d actually book

If I were sending a couple, Fede would book Conrad. The underwater dining, the larger villas, and the shorter transfer time make it the better choice for romance. For families, Fede would book The Ritz-Carlton. The kids’ club, the contemporary design, and the ability to island-hop within the Fari Islands development make it the more engaging option. The honest bit

If you’re loyal to Hilton or Marriott, you can use points for stays, but the redemption rates are high, and availability is limited.
