Sunset Laamu Water Villa
Snorkelling the House Reef
The house reef begins where the lagoon sand ends. Step off your villa deck into waist-deep water and you’re already over coral heads teeming with butterflyfish, parrotfish, and the occasional hawksbill turtle. The reef flat is gentle enough for beginners, while the outer slope drops to 30 metres, attracting larger pelagics. Six Senses marine biologists run guided snorkel tours twice daily, so you can learn the names of the fish you’re seeing or help with coral restoration projects. If you prefer to explore alone, the resort provides reef-safe sunscreen and underwater slates so you can sketch what you find.
- Reef flat accessible directly from villa deck
- Guided snorkel tours with marine biologists at 9:30 am and 3:30 pm
- Coral restoration dives available for certified divers
- Reef-safe sunscreen provided in-villa
Surfing at Ying Yang
Six Senses Laamu is one of the few Maldives resorts with a surf break within a 15-minute boat ride. Ying Yang is a right-hand reef break that works best on a mid-to-high tide and delivers long, mellow rides well suited to intermediate surfers. The resort’s water sports centre provides boards, leashes, and rash guards, and the boat captains know the break so well they can drop you at the take-off spot even when the swell is small. If you’ve never surfed before, the instructors offer private lessons in the lagoon first, then take you out to the line-up once you’re comfortable popping up.
- Ying Yang break: 12–15 minute boat ride from resort
- Best swell direction: south-west, May–October
- Boards and rash guards provided
- Private lessons available for beginners
Diving with Six Senses Laamu
The dive centre is PADI 5-star and runs two-tank morning dives, single-tank afternoon dives, and night dives when conditions allow. Laamu Atoll’s channels are famous for manta rays and eagle rays; the best sites are a 20-minute dhoni ride from the jetty. The resort’s marine team also leads conservation dives where you can help clean up ghost nets or monitor coral nurseries. If you’re not certified, the Discover Scuba programme lets you try a shallow dive in the lagoon before committing to the full course.
- PADI 5-star dive centre on-site
- Two-tank morning dives at 8:00 am
- Manta ray season: August–November
- Discover Scuba programme for beginners
Spa Over Water
The Six Senses spa sits on its own jetty, with treatment rooms that open onto the lagoon. The signature massage blends Thai stretching with Maldivian coconut oil, and the spa menu changes seasonally to use ingredients grown in the resort’s organic garden. Couples can book side-by-side villas for a tandem treatment, or opt for a private cabana on the beach if you prefer sand to sea. Every treatment ends with a glass of fresh turmeric tea and 20 minutes in the relaxation lounge, where the floor is glass so you can watch fish swim beneath you.
- Treatment rooms with lagoon views
- Signature massage: Thai-Maldivian fusion
- Organic garden supplies herbs and oils
- Couples’ villas and private beach cabanas available
Kids Club: The Den

Younger children can join treasure hunts or coconut-husk craft sessions, while older kids can try paddleboarding or snorkelling with a marine biologist. The club is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and parents can drop in anytime to check on their children via the resort app. Babysitting is available after hours for a fee.
