The honest bit

Six Senses Kanuhura is not the quietest or most intimate Six Senses option in the Maldives. It is larger and more socially shaped than Laamu, which many guests will enjoy, but travellers wanting a very remote, hushed and barefoot-natural island may prefer the Laamu product.

The seagrass is an important watchout here. Several villa categories are affected by darker lagoon views, and guests expecting a perfectly clear, pale-blue swimming-pool lagoon may be surprised by the look of the water in some areas. The seagrass is environmentally positive, but I always like to flag it before booking as it an be a not-so-nice surprise.

Room category matters a lot at Kanuhura. Some locations have much cleaner, brighter outlooks than others, while other categories can feel visually compromised by seagrass or less ideal beach conditions. It is worth asking me which categories and orientations work best before choosing a villa, rather than assuming all beach or over-water options have the same view quality.

The resort is also not as purely reef-led as some of the Maldives’ strongest snorkelling islands. The lagoon and beaches are a bigger part of the appeal, so guests whose main priority is exceptional house-reef access should compare carefully.

Kanuhura is strongest for guests who want space, style, wellness, family facilities and a more upbeat luxury island. It is less suited to travellers whose priorities are total quiet, a tiny island feel, a flawless pale-blue lagoon outlook from every room or the strongest possible house reef.

Getting there

Six Senses Kanuhura is located in the Lhaviyani Atoll, about 150 kilometers north of Malé. The only way to reach it is by seaplane, a 40-minute flight that offers open ocean views of the atolls below. Seaplanes operate during daylight hours, so if you’re arriving on an international flight, you may need to spend a night in Malé before continuing to the resort. Once you land, the resort’s team will greet you and whisk you away to the island via a short speedboat transfer. If you’re prone to motion sickness, the seaplane ride can be bumpy—pack some ginger chews or motion sickness bands just in case.
