The resort has six restaurants and bars, each with a distinct personality. Alba is the signature fine-dining spot, offering multi-course tasting menus paired with wines from the underground cellar. Turtles are regular visitors, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a reef shark or a ray gliding through the shallows. For deeper dives, the resort’s water sports center offers guided excursions to nearby sites in the Dhaalu Atoll, which is known for its healthy marine life.

The transfer

The resort is a 40-minute seaplane ride from Malé International Airport. The St Regis has its own private lounge at the seaplane terminal, called The Great Room, where you can relax with a drink while you wait for your flight. If you’re lucky, you’ll be transferred to the terminal in the resort’s Bentley, the only one in the country.

The honest bit

The resort is still young, so some of the landscaping feels a little new. The beach club is beautiful, but the vegetation hasn’t fully matured yet, so it doesn’t have the lush, overgrown feel of older resorts. The house reef is convenient, but serious divers might want to book excursions to the more dramatic sites in the atoll. And because the resort is on a small island, the seaplane landing can be noisy if you’re staying near the arrival jetty.
