Getting there & transfers

Vakkaru is reached by a 35-minute seaplane from Malé International Airport. The resort operates a private lounge at the airport, so you can wait in comfort before your flight. Once you land on the island’s jetty, the welcome is warm — fresh coconut water and a quick buggy ride to your villa.

If you’re island-hopping, domestic flights plus speedboat transfers can also be arranged, but most guests opt for the seaplane for that first glimpse of the atoll from above.

All villas come with a private butler, Wi-Fi, and thoughtful touches like outdoor showers and spacious decks. The larger residences are particularly well-suited for families, with sliding doors that let parents close off the master bedroom while kids sleep nearby.

Dining: five restaurants, two bars

Vakkaru’s dining is designed to feel effortless, whether you’re eating barefoot on the sand or under the stars. The resort grows much of its own produce in an on-site organic farm, so the flavors are fresh and local.

Kids & teens: Parrotfish Club and Coconut Club

Vakkaru is one of the few Maldives resorts that caters to families without sacrificing luxury. The Parrotfish Club is for kids aged 3–12, with a mini version of the resort experience: cooking classes, outdoor pool, arts and crafts, and even tiny sun loungers. Parents can drop kids off for a few hours or join in the fun.

Teenagers get their own space at the Coconut Club, open 24/7. It’s equipped with pool tables, table tennis, foosball, gaming consoles (with parental permission), board games, and a quiet reading area. Snacks and drinks can be ordered via butler service, so teens can hang out independently while parents relax elsewhere on the island.

Babysitting is available for children under 3, allowing parents to enjoy a spa treatment or a romantic dinner without worry.

House reef & snorkeling

Vakkaru’s house reef is easily accessible from the beach or overwater villas. The lagoon has a unique “blue hole”—a deep spot where reef sharks, turtles, and rays are often spotted. The coral isn’t the most vibrant in the Maldives, but the marine life makes up for it, especially around the dive center jetty and the spa jetty.

Snorkeling gear is complimentary, and guided reef tours are available. For families, the resort’s marine biologist leads expeditions that are both fun and educational, teaching kids about the ecosystem in an engaging way.

Water sports & Splash center

The Splash water sports center is PADI-accredited and offers everything from jet ski tours to kite surfing lessons. Kids as young as 8 can try a “bubble maker” introductory dive. Non-motorized options like kayaking, paddleboarding, and windsurfing are also available, as well as sunset dolphin cruises and traditional Maldivian fishing trips.

Land activities & sports

Vakkaru keeps families active on land too. The resort has two floodlit tennis courts, a padel court, beach volleyball, badminton, and a football pitch. Bicycles are complimentary for exploring the island’s lush pathways. For something more relaxed, there’s an overwater gym with Technogym equipment and glass floors that let you watch marine life while you work out.

Spa & wellness

The Merana Spa is perched over the lagoon, with treatment rooms that have glass floors for underwater views. The relaxation area includes hot and cold pools, a sauna, and a range of massages and wellness rituals. Cultural experiences

When to visit

Vakkaru is a year-round destination, but the best conditions are typically from November to April, when the weather is dry and the seas are calm. This is also the peak season for manta ray sightings in nearby Hanifaru Bay. The shoulder months—May and October—offer fewer crowds and lower rates, with brief, refreshing showers that rarely disrupt plans. Even in the “low” season, the resort’s indoor and covered spaces mean there’s always something to do, rain or shine.
