• Best snorkelling spots: Overwater villas 255 and the area near the spa jetty are closest to the house reef’s ‘blue hole,’ where turtles and reef sharks are frequently spotted.

What to expect from the house reef

Vakkaru’s house reef is easily accessible from the beach or overwater villas. The lagoon has a unique ‘blue hole’—a deep, circular depression where marine life congregates. Snorkellers often see reef sharks, turtles, and rays without needing a boat. The coral isn’t the healthiest in the Maldives, but the fish life is abundant and the ease of access makes it well-suited to families. The best spots are between villa 255 and the Vakkaru Residence, and to the left of the dive centre’s jetty towards the spa.
